Paper Recycling Program
.
The Paper Recycling Program has officially been launched in the Hesperia Unified School District.
Thanks to the success of our Pilot Program Schools (Cypress School of the Arts, Hesperia Junior High
and Oak Hills High), the following schools are now partnering with Advance Disposal Co. & Recycling
Center and the City of Hesperia in the program:
Cottonwood Elementary Cypress School of the Arts Oak Hills High School
Krystal School of Science, Math & Technology Mesa Grande Elementary Mojave High Schools
Mesquite Trails Elementary Mission Crest Elementary Hesperia High School
Topaz Preparatory Academy Cedar Middle School Ranchero Middle School
Lime Street Elementary Pathways to College Hesperia Junior High School
Eucalyptus Elementary Kingston Elementary Maple Elementary
As in the Pilot Program, paper recycling boxes with blue bags are provided to each school and placed in the classrooms and in office areas on campuses at no cost to the school. By students and staff placing mixed paper items in the blue bags inside the recycling boxes provided, Advance Disposal is able to identify these bags during the sorting process. The bags help keep the mixed paper free from waste, enabling the paper recycling process to begin at the Material Recovery Facility (MRF) located at Advance Disposal Co. & Recycling Center.
Students and staff are educated through informational flyers, presentations, assemblies and contests on recyclable mixed paper. Pizza parties have been enjoyed by many students for participating in the program as well as gift cards, coloring books and special gifts such as reusable lunch bags, reusable water bottles, and pencils made from recyclable materials. Visit our Students/Teachers page for pictures of our student and classroom winners.

The Shenanigans’ have also partnered with Advance and the City of Hesperia performing their custom rendition of The Wizard of Oz-Recycled (The Earth Show). This is a funny, educational learning tool for students on recycling and our environment performed by talented students ranging in ages from 10 to 18 years of age. It is also the goal of Advance and the City of Hesperia to educate and inform students on the importance of the Environmental R’s – Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. If we reduce and reuse, then less trash is generated also reducing the amount of recyclables which ultimately helps our environment, conserves energy sources and may save consumers money.
If you have any questions regarding this program or would like additional information on recycling, please contact Beverly Williams, Programs Specialist at our office at (760) 244-9773 ext. 225.
